Community Champions
COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Community provides our pupils with the sense of belonging and we reach out across our HPAK community in several ways. Each year group has a set community project that they take part in as they transition through our academy.
Year Group | Community Project |
---|---|
EYFS | Take part in whole school events to support the children to feel welcomed into our HPAK community. |
Year 1 | Make cards for the children on the Pediatric Ward at Mayday Hospital, in Croydon. |
Year 2 | Create artwork/ cards for the elderly residents at Rokewood Court Care Home, in Kenley. |
Year 3 | Go litter picking within the local area and around the academy grounds. |
Year 4 | Volunteer their time at Purley Food Hub, in Purley. |
Year 5 | Run the HPAK Charity Shop, selling second hard books and toys (donated by our HPAK community). |
Year 6 | Visit the elderly residents at Hill House Care Home, in Kenley. All children are assigned a 'Pen Pal' who they write letters to and visit throughout the year. |
At HPAK, our Community Champion themes are revisited each year, to ensure the children leave us with a clear understanding of these topics and a commitment to being champions of these areas themselves in their future lives. We feel passionate that these themes should not only be taught discretely but should form the foundation, rather than an ‘add on’ or tokenistic teaching approach. Although a monthly theme has been chosen, this does not mean to say these topics are not covered throughout the year, rather that we believe it is important to explore the theme in greater detail discreetly. Furthermore, we intend to add other key advocates to the list below and welcome any suggestions. The books selected form just part of the offer surrounding that month. We are looking forward to working with our parents/ carers and our local community to support us with our challenges and events.
